ShopWired & The New Google Analytics

Marketing

Google have recently announced that from 1st July 2023 that "Universal Analytics" (UA) properties setup within Google Analytics will stop processing website visits.

Most users of Google Analytics will be using UA to record visitors. The announcement means that if you are using UA you will need to migrate to Google's latest version of Google Analytics (GA4) on or before 30th June 2023.

In their announcement, Google has recommended that users migrate to GA4 now.

There are various implications of moving to GA4, and we recommend reading the full details of Google's announcement here.

You should be aware that after 1st July 2023 you will only be able to access visitor statistics for data gathered under UA for 6 months, after which time it will be unavailable.

Is ShopWired compatible with GA4?

Yes.

To enable GA4 on ShopWired you simply need to copy and paste the Google tracking code provided to you within Google Analytics into your ShopWired account in the "visitor tracking" page of ShopWired, which you can access here.

There's more information on how to open an account and install the code on ShopWired in our help guide here.

However, at the moment ShopWired does not support a native integration of ecommerce analytics for GA4. This means that you will not automatically see ecommerce data available within your Google Analytics account for your ShopWired store.

ShopWired's development team will work on integrating native support for GA4 shortly, and we aim to release this functionality in the Summer.

In the meantime, for your online store to send details of orders placed to Google Analytics, you should follow the instructions here. This will ensure that details of orders placed on your website are sent to Google Analytics (such as the amount of the order, the products ordered etc.).

At the current time, it's not possible to add in coding to your theme to support other types of ecommerce data being sent to Google Analytics (such as an 'add to basket' button being clicked). This will be supported once we have launched our native integration.
